Harness Racing at Charlottetown Driving Park

After tangling with the region’s toughest mares in her latest, Tobins Brownie sets her sights on the Thursday, July 24 feature as action resumes at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has a 13-dash presentation with first post time at 6 p.m.

Race 12 is a $4,200 conditioned pace for fillies and mares, and Tobins Brownie is a top contender from post two with trainer Adam Merner at the controls for owners Sandra Weeks and Brittany Watts of Springvale, P.E.I. The seven-year-old daughter of Stonebridge Terror-Putnam Mackenzie last raced in the $14,000 Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Final during Governor’s Plate night at Red Shores Summerside.

Windemere Saddy (Corey MacPherson) drew the rail for the Saul Lanigan barn as the morning line favourite after her victory in the $8,500 Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Consolation last out in 1:55.1. Jm Sportsfan (Steven Shepherd) is installed as the 3-1 second choice from post four for trainer Harold Shepherd. Also in the field are Woodmere Kennedie (Gilles Barrieau), Lady Devine (Jason Hughes), and Get Answers (Marc Campbell).

Post Time Picks goes with Tobins Brownie.

“Tobins Brownie was up against the best mares in the region and only three lengths away. She gets a better post to work from tonight and Merner will have her up close to the action, so be prepared for a good result.”

The Thursday night trotting feature will go postward in Race 7 with $4,000 at stake and a well-matched group of six vying for top honours. Fight Song headlines the class from post six with Hughes back in the seat for trainer Ashley Gamester and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The six-year-old son of Kadabra-Fortunes Of Fables has set track records at Red Shores Charlottetown and Red Shores Summerside in his last two.

Buckhead Ridge (Campbell) won seven straight when he first came to P.E.I. but fell short in his last two, and he leaves from post five this week as he aims to return to victory lane. Helpfull Princess (Merner) draws post three as the 7-2 third choice from the Luke Burke barn. Also in the field are Glider Man (David Dowling), Curadh (Ryan Desroche), and Majian Tango (James Ripley).
