Kittys Column Stars For Hot McQueen Barn

Kittys Column

Kittys Column bottomed out the field to win the $5,200 Preferred 3 Pace at Dresden Raceway on Sunday, July 20, headlining a training triple for Cameron McQueen on the 10-race card.

The mare sprinted away from post four to take command for Garrett Rooney on the first turn and rolled to the quarter in :28. She picked up speed heading to the half in :57 and stormed through the third quarter, leaving her foes six lengths behind at three-quarters in 1:25.2. The field started to reel her in on the final turn and swarmed her down the stretch, but they were not in time as Kittys Column reached home in 1:55.4, 1-1/4 lengths clear of Dapper Fella (Mark MacDonell). He closed fastest to get up for second over Come On Artie (Andy Moore). The winner paid $5.20.

Kittys Column won for the sixth time this year in 14 outings. McQueen co-owns the Sportswriter-Kitty Kitty Hawk mare with John McQueen of Port Huron, Mich. and Gregory Tuckwell of Chatham, Ont. The four-year-old is now 15-for-52 lifetime with $83,123 in earnings.

McQueen also won with Wall Street Bell ($3.20), who is now two-for-two for the trainer, and Trident Seelster ($5). He is now tied with Donnie Rankin for the lead in the trainers’ standings with nine wins at Dresden this year. McQueen has won 51 races overall this season for a strike rate of 23.8 per cent. He is aiming for a second straight year with triple-digit wins.

Lookstobemagic pulled a rabbit out of her hat in the lone $8,000 Prospect Series second-leg dash for two-year-old trotting fillies, upsetting at 27-1 while never seeing the pylons. She was unable to find a seat early and drove on for Natasha Day, gradually climbing past horses on the outside and eventually grinding by pacesetter Massive Victory (Rooney) to win by a length in 2:08.2. Life Is Great (Rankin) finished third. Lookstobemagic earned her maiden victory for trainer Brent Belore after making breaks in her first two starts. The Lookslikeachpndale-Magical Wonder filly is owned by Karen and Daniel Macintyre. She returned $57.40 to win.
