P N G Shadow Stars In Grassroots At Mohawk

P N G Shadow winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Dropping from the Gold Series to the Grassroots level, P N G Shadow was the fastest of four Cattlewash freshman pacing filly winners in Ontario Sires Stakes action on Friday night, July 18 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

P N G Shadow broke her maiden in her second career start, taking the evening's first $25,000 second-leg division of the Grassroots Series in 1:52.3. Driven by four-time Friday winner Louis-Philippe Roy, P N G Shadow looped to the lead down the backstretch and put away pesky rival Pownal Bay Bobbi (Doug McNair) in the final turn before holding off 7-5 favourite Talbot Kristen (Bob McClure) and the quick-closing Naughty Delight (James MacDonald) to win by half a length. Trainer Dr. Ian Moore owns the Cattlewash-Lady Arthur filly with breeders R G McGroup Ltd. of Bathurst, N.B., and Serge Savard of St-Bruno, Que.

Cattlewash fillies swept the second Grassroots leg with the Scott McEneny-trained No Better Air (Trevor Henry, 1:53.3) and the Dustin Jones-conditioned Cackle Berry (Tyler Jones, 1:53.4) also scoring maiden-breaking victories while Chicanery (Travis Cullen, 1:54.1) was the only repeat winner for the Dan Lagace stable.

The third Grassroots leg for freshman pacing fillies is scheduled for Aug. 10 at Georgian Downs.

In overnight racing action, 49-1 longshot Chelsis Choice upset in 1:52 in the $15,000 second leg of a Pop-Up Series for pacing fillies and mares that are non-winners of $25,000 in a minimum of 10 starts in 2025, with starters for a purse of $10,000 or less in their last start also eligible. Roy worked out the winning trip for trainer Ricky Montgomery.
