Primo Maschio Captures Third DSBF Final

Forrest Bartlett’s Primo Maschio continued his dominance of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund events, winning his third final and completing a sweep of the most recent series as he took the $150,685 DSBF Final for three-year-old pacing males on Thurdsay, July 17 at Harrington Raceway.
Primo Maschio ($2.10, Trae Porter) put up :27.4, :56, and 1:24.4 panels on the front and powered home to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:53.1. Shore Not Beach (Pat Berry) was second over Wyatt Earp (Allan Davis).
Primo Maschio, a son of Badlands Hanover-Primadonna, improved to 16-for-19 lifetime. The Walter Callahan-trained gelding has won seven of eight attempts this year.
The card, held on opening night of the Delaware State Fair, was Harrington Raceway’s richest program of the season with total purses of $869,863. There were four $150,685 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund Finals for three-year-olds on the card.
Jane Dunavant’s Kats Fancy ($2.40, Cody Poliseno) cut splits of :28.4, :58.2, and 1:28.4 and won the filly trotting final in a 9-3/4-length romp over Buttoncandy (Art Stafford Jr.) and Peggys Girl (Porter). The Dusty Winner-Koala Kat filly notched her fourth straight win for trainer Carlo Poliseno in 1:59.4. She is now eight-for-21 lifetime with five victories in 12 tries this year.
Rodney Wyatt and Kevin Peck’s Valentina Station ($38.20) was an upset winner in the filly pacing final. She took point after a :27.4 quarter for trainer-driver Eddie Dennis, paced middle splits of :56.4 and 1:26, and defeated Bella Artiste (Jim Morand) by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:56.3. Little Miss Peyton (Corey Callahan) was third. The winning Badlands Hanover-Village Artist filly earned the fourth win of her career in 22 attempts. She is two-for-12 in 2025.
Stacy Johnson-Stafford’s Yale ($2.10, Art Stafford Jr.) was a 1:59.4 winner in the final for colt-and-gelding trotters. He popped the pocket to lead after a :30 first panel, cut a 1:00.4 half and 1:30.4 three-quarters, and held off Wolfpack Cheddar (Montrell Teague) by 1-1/4 lengths to score in 1:59.4 with Delaware Xactly (Jason Thompson) third. Yale, an E L Platinum-Press Corp colt, notched his fourth win in six lifetime starts for trainer/driver Stafford Jr. He is perfect in three outings this season.
The $68,493 Governor’s Cup highlighted a series of long-standing races for older horses. Tlb Racing’s Captaincountrystar ($7.80, Teague) went wire-to-wire in 1:51.2 to prevail by three-quarters of a length for trainer Traci Berry over Downers Delight (Pat Berry), followed by Adam Twelve (Corey Callahan). The winner, a five-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Well Thats New, has racked up 36 wins in 90 lifetime appearances.
Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing Team’s Speed Away ($3.80, Corey Callahan) won the $47,945 Charles Murphy Jr. Memorial Trot in 1:55 over Swan Flyer (Davis) and Muscle Dynasty (Stafford Jr.). The Nick Callahan trainee is now 23-for-87 lifetime. The Wiz Kids Stable’s Disturbed Hanover ($5.40, Barton Dalious) was a 1:53.3 winner over Grandeur Seelster (Teague) and Sweet Molly (Davis) in the $47,945 Legislator’s Cup. Trained by Bart Dalious, the win was her 38th in 197 career starts.
Live racing will return to Harrington on August 11.
