Goodbye Ceia Later Repeats in Century Downs Preferred

Goodbye Ceia Later reaffirmed her status as one of Alberta’s top mares as she defeated Outlawguns N Roses and Stash The Cookies for the second straight week in the $16,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Century Downs on Wednesday, July 16.
She sat fourth early for Phil Giesbrecht as the inner three starters rocketed off the car with Alberta’s reigning Horse of the Year, Outlawguns N Roses (Mike Hennessy), shrugging off Stash The Cookies (Brandon Campbell) to secure command in a :26.4 opening panel. The field went single-file to the half in :56 when Stash The Cookies, the province's defending champion Aged Mare, rolled first-over, followed by Goodbye Ceia Later on her back.
Stash The Cookies rumbled alongside Outlawguns N Roses on the backstretch, and they battled through three-quarters in 1:24.3. Goodbye Ceia Later joined them three-high midway through the final turn, and she motored past them before sailing home to win by a length over the closing Grey Sea (Kelly Hoerdt) in 1:53.3. Outlaw Blue Isle (Dave Kelly) finished third. The winner returned $10.
Goodbye Ceia Later, trained by Chris Lancaster, is seven-for-20 this season with three wins at the top level at Century Downs. Lancaster of Airdrie, Alta. co-owns the six-year-old daughter of Vertical Horizon-Ba Bye Ceia Later with Velda Olding of Abbotsford, B.C. The mare has raked in $207,724 in earnings and won 25 times in 111 career outings.
