Open Trot Score Headlines Harmon Hat Trick

Enola

Trainer Rob Harmon took the featured $21,918 Open Trot with Enola at Tioga Downs on Saturday, July 12 to highlight his triple in combination with Mike Merton on the 11-race card.

Enola found a seat fourth while leader City Of Hope (John Cummings Jr.) put up an opening quarter of :26.2. He controlled things to the half in :55.2 before Purple Lord (Jim Pantaleano) moved out of third to put in a challenge to three-quarters in 1:24.1. As they reached the stretch, Enola ($7.10) came with a menacing three-wide move and rolled past his opponents to prevail in 1:54.2 by 1-1/4 lengths. Sevenshotsobourbon (Tom Merton) made a late bid to get second over Purple Lord.

Enola, a five-year-old Resolve-Deweys Katie mare, is owned by David Litvinsky and Go For Glory Stable LLC while trained by Harmon. She is two-for-16 this year with 15 wins in 81 career starts.

Merton and Harmon kicked off the card with a victory, taking the first with Big Water Stan ($5.90). They then came right back after their win with Enola to take the eighth race with Sweet Valley ($3.90). Harmon has won 67 of 495 starts this year, a win rate of 13.5 per cent. He is fourth in the Tioga trainers' standings.

Harmon's triple was matched by trainer Cameron Capone, who scooped the final three races to assume the lead in the trainers' standings. He won the seventh race with Dees Red Delicious ($8.10), the eighth with Shes Spicy ($2.60), and the finale with Double Dealing ($6.50). Capone, with 30 wins at Buffalo this year, leads Jeff Cullipher by two and defending champion Harmon by 10. The successful day at Tioga for Capone may have been overshadowed by his victory in the Meadowlands Pace with Madden Oaks later in the night.

Chuckthemillionair made it five straight wins on the card, crushing his rivals once again. The five-year-old son of Lucky Chucky-Win A Million, driven by Kyle DiBenedetto, was five lengths the best this time in 1:56, a new lifetime mark for the Joe Fusaro-trained gelding. Chuckthemillionair is seven-for-10 since making his career debut in April and is unbeaten in four starts at Tioga. Breeder Peter Peck co-owns him with Harvey Ort Jr. and Bryan Casey.

Tioga Downs will host its next card on Sunday, July 13 with a post time of 1 p.m.
