House Edge Hanover Headlines Triple For Matheson

House Edge Hanover

House Edge Hanover had the advantage over his rivals in the Saturday, July 12 conditioned feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, highlighting a triple for trainer Ron Matheson.

Gilles Barrieau was in the bike for the lifetime-best 1:52.3 victory in the $4,300 featured pace as House Edge Hanover ($3.50) delivered for Matheson and owner Everette Hanson of Maugerville, N.B. After racing fourth in the five-horse field through fractions of :28.1, :56.1, and 1:24.2, House Edge Hanover swung out and charged by his rivals, hunting down pacesetter Sonny Black (Myles Heffernan) for the win. The four-year-old Betting Line-Hug A Dragoness gelding is now six-for-16 this year. Avatar J (Jason Hughes) was second by 2-1/4 lengths, followed by Tradition (Adam Merner).

Barrieau and Matheson also clicked with The Sports Desk ($6.50) in the Kenmac Energy Pace with a 1:56.4 win. The other win for the duo came as Ashes To Ashes ($2.30) dead-heated with Jks Henry ($5.60) and trainer-driver Brad Smith in 1:56.1 in Race 10. Matheson is now 19-for-95 this season, a win rate of 20 per cent.

Friar Voltaire ($2.50) won the Milene Carr Memorial in 1:56 for driver Brady Sweet and trainer Basil Hunter.

The Mike McGuigan stable doubled up with Bet On Evil ($6.80) in 1:59 and The Tulsa King ($3.20) in 1:57.2.

Live racing continues Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Red Shores Summerside for the start of Governor's Plate Week racing. The card features a pair of $9,000 eliminations for the Governor's Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge. Red Shores Charlottetown is on hiatus for live racing until July 24.
