The card of harness racing on Saturday, July 12 at Hanover Raceway featured a memorial trotting event for a former track employee as well as a pacing event in concert with Harness The Hope.

Stonebridge Zeus ($2.60; pictured above) delivered as the 1-5 favourite in the $6,000 Randy Rier Memorial Trot, with driver Travis Henry finding a seam late to angle inside pacesetter Forbidden Treasure (J Harris) late and best Sandoon (Bruce Richardson) by a length in the 2:02.3 mile. Forbidden Treasure completed the top trio.

Co-owned by hometown trainer Bryan Lawrence along with Smurk Inc., six-year-old Stonebridge Zeus (Resolve - Stonebridge Epic) picked up his third win of the year and 13th career to lift his earnings just shy of $145,000.

Rier, who passed away last November, served as the President of Hanover Bentinck and Brant Agricultural Society from 1990-1995 and 2002-2020. He was also an accomplished starter, race secretary, paddock judge and announcer at Hanover Raceway.

In the $6,000 Harness The Hope Pace, St Lads Cash ($8.20) enjoyed a similar pocket trip for driver Daryl Thiessen, but angled to the outside in the stretch to collar favourite Big Sir (Henry) by three parts of length in a 1:56.3 tally.  LA Sun Control (Ryan Hollday) rallied for the show spot.

Michelle Leblanc of Guelph, Ont, owns and trains nine-year-old St Lads Cash (Sunfire Blue Chip - St Lads Coco), a three-time winner in 2025 after missing all of 2024. Saturday's win was the 25th of his career, pushing his purses to $236,637 lifetime.

Hanover also featured four races during the afternoon card comprised completely of women drivers. Those races were won by Natasha Day and Anne-Marie Turenne; Day dominated the first two dashes, winning with Sportnsense (2:00.2; $2.30) and Diamonds Or Twine (2:00; $18.90). Turenne then took over, triumphant courtesy Winwithawhisper (2:01.2; $6.80) and Modern Writer (1:59.1; $11.10).
