Buckeye Stallion Series Begins For Freshmen Thursday

Racing at Scioto Downs

Dan Noble will drive a pair of Anette Lorentzon-trained morning line favourites as the Buckeye Stallion Series for two-year-olds kicks off with five $20,000 USD divisions in the opening leg for filly trotters on Thursday, July 10 at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Noble will be in the sulky with Lorentzon trainees Chasingstardust As and Mockingbird As, a pair of Guardian Angel As fillies who enter as early 5-2 favourites in their respective divisions despite their inexperience.

“We’ve liked them all along. They are two nice horses that have done everything right,” said Lorentzon. “The thing with our horses is that we don’t train very fast with them before we bring them to the racetrack, so when we bring them to qualifiers, they have literally never seen a racetrack or a starting gate or a race bike. So they’ll need a few starts until they are on top of their game, so I just hope they get a good experience.”

Owned by ACL Stuteri AB, Chasingstardust As will leave from the inside post in the first division in what will be her first career start in a purse race. She finished first and third in a pair of qualifiers at Scioto in June with a top time of 2:01.3. Amissionforlil is the 9-2 second choice in this division.

Mockingbird As will leave from the rail in the fifth division. She raced in two qualifiers at Scioto in June, posting times of 2:01.3 and 1:59, and is owned by ACL Stuteri AB and Lorentzon. This race also features 9-2 second choice Magical Gold and Moon Dancin, who is a perfect two-for-two on the season.

At 9-5, Jolene Hall is a slight favourite in the second division and will leave from post three next to 5-2 second choice Til The End As in post four. Anthony MacDonald will drive Jolene Hall for trainer Jason McGinnis. The Ready For Moni filly finished second in her lone prior purse start this season with a time of 2:00 at MGM Northfield Park. She started her 2025 season by winning a qualifier at Northfield in 2:02.4.

Bel Lay Star is the 5-2 morning line favourite in the third division with 7-2 second choice Joyofmylife As leaving from the far outside. Jeremy Smith will drive Bel Lay Star for Norman Robbins. The Marseille filly is making her second career start. She posted a time of 2:04.4 in a qualifier at Delaware on June 18. She is owned by Susan Robbins.

The 5-2 morning line favourite in the fourth division is Id Rather Not Say. The Volstead filly will leave from the rail with Sam Widger in the sulky for Wilbur Yoder. Wild As Her As is the second choice at 3-1. Id Rather Not Say is making her fourth career start and has yet to finish better than fourth in her three prior starts. She is owned by Joe Nesselroad.

Thursday’s Buckeye Stallion Series races at Scioto Downs are part of a 15-race card that begins at 5:45 p.m.
