Favourites Deliver In Quebec Series Finals

Hippodrome 3R's July 6 Sunday card was headlined by the $25,000 finals of the Series Quebecoises, crowning champions in four divisions for aged trotters and pacers.
Each of the four Quebec-Bred Series champions emerged from a competitive three-leg lead-up, and notably, two of the final winners completed a perfect sweep of their respective divisions. All four winners were sent off as post-time favourites, delivering as expected.
The first final of the afternoon featured aged trotting mares. Sant Ambroggio (Pascal Berube) shot to the early lead, setting an opening quarter of :28.4 before driver Robert Shepherd and MVPs Daughter, the 1-2 co-favourite, popped the pocket and took command. She remained in control through middle fractions of :58.3 and 1:28.3 and held on gamely to win by a narrow margin in 1:58.4 over a hard-charging Cleomax Duharas (Loic Gueriel). La Bromontoise (Sylvain Lacaille) finished third.
Bred, owned, and trained by Jerome Lombart, MVPs Daughter is a four-year-old daughter of My MVP–Promising Lavec. The win improved her career record to 7-7-5 in 33 starts, with $19,214 earned this season and $82,653 overall.
In the aged pacing mares division, Kiss Me Bad and driver Steven Gagnon capped off a dominant series sweep with a gritty 1:58 win. Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, she was parked first-over for much of the mile but still surged past pacesetter GA Speed Matrix (Guy Gagnon), who had carved out fractions of :28.3, :58.1, and 1:27. Mach N Blue Cheez (Antoine Desrochers) rallied for third in a well-fought finish.
A former 2023 series champion, Kiss Me Bad now boasts 29 career victories, with four wins this season. The nine-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover–Helen Of Troy is trained by Daniel Mondou and has earned $21,820 in 2025 and $133,447 lifetime.
The boys were up next with the aged male trotters taking the spotlight in Race 9, where Paradise Moni completed a perfect sweep of the series with a sharp 1:57 win. After getting away sixth in the seven-horse field, driver Denis St. Pierre was the first to tip out, eventually catching cover behind Kenogami Coco (Robert Shepherd). Up front, fractions of :28.4, :58.4, and 1:27.3 were set by 1-9 co-favourite and stablemate Royalty Beer (Pascal Berube), who had to settle for second as Paradise Moni charged by. Kenogami Coco finished third.
Owned by trainer Kevin Maguire’s Ecuries Maguire Inc. and Jean-Francois Maguire, Paradise Moni (pictured above) is a four-year-old son of International Moni–Jessies Song. The victory marked his sixth of the season and 11th career win in 35 starts. He has earned $47,945 this year and $73,766 lifetime.
The day wrapped up with the aged pacing males, and it was all The Light Speed, who delivered as the 1-9 favourite. Driver-trainer Guy Gagnon sent the seven-year-old straight to the front, posting fractions of :27.1, :56.4, and 1:26.2 before digging in down the stretch to hold off Ritchie Alpha (Stephane Brosseau) and win in 1:55.4. Bets Beach (Pascal Berube) rounded out the top three.
The Light Speed had finished second in two earlier series divisions before prepping for the final with a Preferred Handicap start at Rideau Carleton Raceway. The Moon Beam–Jayma gelding, owned by Michel Nolette of Princeville, Que., now sports six wins on the season and 66 career victories from 150 starts. He’s earned $52,530 this year and $485,989 lifetime.
