Sophomores Star In Prospect Series At Hanover

Sophomore pacers were hosted at Hanover Raceway on Saturday (July 5) afternoon in the third leg of the Prospect Series with four divisions contested, two for each gait with each carrying a $8,000 purse.

Whiskey Blue Chip ($2.40, pictured above) was the first up to the plate in the division for pacing fillies and she took the front-end trip around the oval to win by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:58.3. Mario Baillargeon was in the bike for the Stag Party - Sunnynseventyfive filly who is trained and owned by William McClure. She is now a five-time winner in 25 starts with $74,489 banked.

In the second division for the young ladies, Expresso Beans ($6.20) won by two lengths in 1:59.2, piloted by Brett Macdonald. Trained by Ronald Macdonald, Brett Macdonald co-owns the Mcwicked - Express Writer filly with Brent Maclennan and Shen Guo. She won her third race from six starts this year and her fourth career race in 16 starts. 

Strongman Hanover ($2.60) won from gate-to-wire in the first split for the sophomore pacing colts, driven to a three length score in 1:59.4 by Daryl Thiessen. Joshua Mckibbin trains the Bettors Delight - Sawyer gelding for Murray Cox. He won his third race of the season and third career race.

In the final division of Prospect Series action, sophomore gelding Five Star Lou ($10.50; pictured above), driven by Paul MacKenzie, won by 9-3/4 lengths in 1:57.1. A winner of seven races in 18 career starts and $41,800, the Dancin Lou - Hakima gelding is trained by Shawn Steacy and owned by Landmark 17 Racing Stable, Stephen Downey, Dan Mogridge, and Esa Lahtinen.
