Mappos Lion Impresses In Northside Winners Over Pace

Reigning heavyweight champion Hugh Heff saw his seven-win streak snap on Saturday (July 5) at Northside Downs as newcomer Mappos Lion shined in a dominating performance in the Winners Over Pace.
Coming off an impressive win in Inverness on Sunday, June 29, Mappos Lion and Lewis MacDonell took post two in the field of seven going for $1,700. MacDonell pressed the gas and the Kenneth Collins student responded, opening up by 3-3/4 lengths at the quarter in :27.3. Continuing forward, Mappos Lion was up by four lengths at the :55.4 half and up by 8-1/4 lengths at the 1:25 three quarters. Without letting up, Mappos Lion romped home for the win by 8-1/2 lengths in 1:55.1. Hugh Heff (Randy Getto) worked his way through a trip from the back of the pack to take second and Kiss Me Im Irish (Mark Pezzarello) rounded out the ticket for show.
Mappos Lion is an eight-year-old gelded son of Sunshine Beach - Pacific Playmate owned by Hailee Currie and Carol Campbell. He is now two-for-two on the year, moving his lifetime record to 27-11-11 with $311,968 banked in 79 starts. He paid $2.80 to win.
