Buckhead Ridge Seeks Seventh Straight At CDP

Harness racing at Charlottetown Driving Park

Buckhead Ridge will be looking for his seventh straight win for trainer Landon Campbell in the featured $4,000 Open Handicap Trot on Thursday, July 3 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 13-dash Thursday card will get underway at 6 p.m. (ADT) with the Open going postward as race 10. Red Shores will be implementing its heat protocols in the first leg of the program. Post parades will be shortened to allow horses and drivers to remain in the cool paddock area while the temperature continues to cool down through the evening card.

Buckhead Ridge has been assigned the outside post five for the third consecutive start in the Open with Marc Campbell driving his son's streaking trainee for owner Brady Doyle of Stratford, P.E.I. The five-year-old Nuncio-Tuonela gelding, who is the 5-2 morning line favourite, will face off with newcomer Helpfull Princess (Adam Merner), Ripped And Ready (Brett Clow), New Legacy (David Dowling) and Fight Song (Jason Hughes).

With 54-lifetime victories to her credit, Elm Grove Mistress knows how to win and is labelled as the one to beat in the $3,750 featured fillies and mares pace, a high-end conditioned event in race 12. Elm Grove Mistress has rail control and is the 5-2 morning line choice for driver David Dowling and trainer Jennifer Doyle, who currently leads all conditioners at the capital oval with 20 wins so far this season. The 10-year-old daughter of Articulator and Aquatic Lightning is owned by Doyle and has not missed the board in her last six appearances. Doyle also sends out post four starter Lady Devine, to be driven by Ken Murphy.

Landon Campbell is hot on the heels of Doyle with 18 winners at Charlottetown in 2025 and has two trainees to challenge Elm Grove Mistress for the top spot. Gilles Barrieau will drive Woodmere Kennedie, who is riding a two-race win streak, from post two. The other is post six starter Galway Girl, with the trainer’s father in the driver’s seat.

Red Shores will officially launch its new 20th Anniversary promotion for on track players. Purchase $20 or more and receive a ballot for a chance to win $20,000 on Gold Cup night.
