Series Win Highlights Capone Tioga Triple; Boyd Drives Six

Talbotcreekwhiskey winning at Tioga Downs

Talbotcreekwhiskey won the $32,877 final of the Jack Rossi Memorial Claiming Series to kick off a Tioga Downs training triple for Cameron Capone on Friday, June 27.

Coming off a victory in a preliminary leg of the series for $17,123 claiming pacers last week, Talbotcreekwhiskey ($8.80) and driver Ridge Warren had a short-lived lead early on as Double Up N (Tyler Miller) took control just before hitting the quarter in :26.4. The new leader stole a second quarter breather to the half in :55.4 and raced on to three-quarters in 1:23.4 as Im A Big Shot (Mike Merton) advanced first-up heading down the backstretch. As they reached the stretch, Talbotcreekwhiskey came flying three-wide to win in 1:54.1 by three-quarters of a length over the late-closing longshot, Seeyou At The Beach (Dan Rawlings). Im A Big Shot finished third. 

Talbotcreekwhiskey is a 10-year-old gelding by Somebeachsomewhere out of Luck Of Michelle. A career winner of 32 races, he's three-for-18 this year. Owned by Nicholas Sodano of Colts Neck, New Jersey, Talbotcreekwhiskey joined the Capone stable for the previous leg of the series, which is named in memory of the longtime associate judge at Tioga.

After taking the sixth race feature, Capone completed his triple while teaming up with the hot-handed Braxten Boyd for back-to-back wins to sweep the late Daily Double with Flower Shops ($4.50) and Im Burlington N ($6.70). Those victories followed four others earlier on the 10-race card for Boyd to give him a six-win night and a total of 66 wins at the meet. Tioga's leading driver also scored with Bella Bianca ($5.90) for conditioner Joe Pavia Jr., Laurie Poulin trainees Prairie Kitten ($17.20) and Prairie Magical ($3.20) and Miley Rose ($12) from the Michelle Warner stable.

The $19,178 Rossi final for $10,274 claimers was won by Thndrfrmthethron N ($7.80) in 1:53.1 with Jim Pantaleano working out the winning trip for trainer Kevin Reynolds Jr. Pantaleano had a driving double, also taking the $17,808 Mares Winners Over Handicap Pace with the Mike Deters-trained Alabama Hannah ($19.40) in 1:52.2.

Live harness racing returns to Tioga Downs on Saturday, June 28 with a post time of 6:15 p.m.
