Seeme Zoom Into Grand River's Record Books

Seeme Zoom winning at Grand River Raceway

Three-year-old trotting gelding Seeme Zoom sped around Grand River Raceway into the record books on Friday, June 27.

Seeme Zoom established a new track record for three-year-old trotting geldings over the five-eighths-mile configuration, with a career-best 1:54.4 effort in the evening's ninth race, an $8,000 conditioned trot for non-winners of two or $25,000 lifetime (with allowances). He knocked one full second and two-fifths off the divisional gelding record set last year by Veracruz and JGs Pal while coming within four-fifths of the overall three-year-old male trotting record held by the colt Paquet.

Driven by J Harris, the Lacey McCabe trainee zoomed through fractions of :27.2, :57.1 and 1:25.2, leaving the rest of the field behind as he kept on going to score the seven-length victory over older foes. The winner paid $8.20 as the 3-1 second choice. Despite making a break in the final turn, odds-on favourite Stonebridge Glee (Daryl Thiessen) reset and was well ahead of the rest to maintain second-place. Pillow Thief (J.B. Renaud) took third.

A homebred son of Alarm Detector out of the Trixton mare Okayzoomer, Seeme Zoom is owned by Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Ingersoll, Ont., and Cheryl Cherry of Guelph, Ont. A London Classic Sale Series winner last month at The Raceway at Western Fair District, he is now four-for-11 lifetime with just shy of $40,000 in purse earnings.
