Freaky Fanny Circles Top Truro Pacers

Freaky Fanny winning at Truro Raceway

Four-year-old pacing mare Freaky Fanny took on the top pacers at Truro Raceway and prevailed with a last-to-first rally in the Friday, June 27 edition of the Winners Over Handicap Pace.

Freaky Fanny had nine lengths to make up after a :55.2 half as trainer/driver Darren Crowe sent her underway from the back of the five-pack in the Friday night feature. Freaky Fanny advanced into contention down the backstretch the final time while pocket-popper Bettor On Than Off (Ernie Laffin) took over the lead from early speedster Bronx Drifter (Trevin Shive) at three-quarters in 1:25. Freaky Fanny caught the new leader as they turned for home and prevailed by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.3. American Risk (Andrew Campbell), last week's winner and this week's odds-on favourite at 1-9, finished 1-3/4 lengths behind in third. Lady N Paradise (Clare MacDonald), the only other mare in the field, was fourth as Bronx Drifter faded to fifth.

A Stanfield Stakes winner at Truro last July, Freaky Fanny is now four-for-six this year while trained by Crowe for owner Josh MacDonald of Little Pond, P.E.I. The daughter of Artspeak out of Silverhill Bunna has eight wins to her credit with $28,161 earned from 32 races lifetime.

Sent postward at 4-1 odds, Freaky Fanny paid $10.20 to win.
