Paradise Moni Poised For Quebec Series Sweep

Paradise Moni winning at Hippodrome 3R

Paradise Moni made it three straight wins in the preliminary legs of the Series Quebecoises for older trotters after the Friday, June 27 round at Hippodrome 3R.

In the $6,000 third leg for male trotters, Paradise Moni and driver Denis St. Pierre got a three-hole trip in the five-horse field through fractions of :29, :59.4 and 1:29.1 before rallying past pacesetter Frido PV and Marie-Claude Auger as they turned for home. He trotted a :28.4 final frame to win in 1:58.2. Pocket-sitter Kenogami Coco and Robert Shepherd came on for second, finishing one length behind the winner, while Frido PV settled for third.

Owned by trainer Kevin Maguire's Ecuries Maguire Inc. along with Jean-Francois Maguire, Paradise Moni is now a 10-time winner in 34 starts with half of those victories taken this year. The four-year-old son of International Moni-Jessies Song lifted his lifetime earnings over $60,000.

Sent postward as the even-money favourite, he paid $4.10 to win.

Trainer Jerome Lombart's homebred mare MVPs Daughter ended Sensi Amnesia's chance of a series sweep in the distaff trotting division as she defeated the winner of the first two preliminary legs after a final quarter duel.

Sensi Amnesia and Marie-Claude Auger crossed to command into the backstretch and led the field of half a dozen distaffers at the opening markers in :28.4 and :59.4 before Robert Shepherd made his move with MVPs Daughter from third and went head-to-head with the front-striding even-money favourite as they raced past three-quarters in 1:29.3. Those two continued to duke it out down the lane with MVPs Daughter ultimately wearing down Sensi Amnesia for the half-length victory in 1:59.1. Cleomax Duharas rallied wide down the stretch to round out the top three finishers, 1-1/2 lengths behind, for Loic Gueriel.

A four-year-old daughter of My MVP and Promising Lavec, MVPs Daughter followed up a third-place finish and half-length defeat to Sensi Amnesia in the opening legs of the series with her first win of the season in eight starts. She now sports a career record reading 6-7-5 in 32 races with more than $70,000 in earnings.

MVPs Daughter paid $5.10 to win as part of the 3-2 entry that included fourth-place finisher La Bromontoise.
