Kinnder Hotblood Back On Track

Kinnder Hotblood

After breaks in four straight races, Kinnder Hotblood (Jimmy Whittemore) returned to good form as she won the $10,135 featured conditioned trot at Vernon Downs on Thursday, June 19.

Zapaca (Frank Affrunti) was first to the quarter in :27.2, but Kinnder Hotblood ($4) took over control on the backstretch and led to the half in :56.4. Zapaca emerged from the pocket to challenge heading down the backstretch for the final time and pressured the leader to three-quarters in 1:26.1. Kinnder Hotblood and Zapaca were slugging it out as they reached the stretch, but Kinnder Hotblood held strong and resisted her rival to the finish, reaching home a length in front in 1:55.2. Zapaca was a commendable second. Jesmach On Target (Chris Long) finished third.

Kinnder Hotblood, winner of an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Mid-Season Final last year, is owned by Janie Kellogg and trained by Whittemore. The four-year-old Kadabra-Her Name Is Lola mare is now eight-for-23 lifetime and has earned $215,355. Saturday's win was her second in six tries in 2025.

Whittemore and Long each drove three winners on the card. Joe Nassimos and Jeff Sorenson had training doubles.

Vernon Downs will host its next card on Saturday, June 21, with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
