Wyse Breaks Maiden, Hoerdt Triples At Century Downs

Robert Wyse took his first pari-mutuel driving win as he piloted Chaseisonthecase to a dominant victory in the opener on Thursday, June 19 at Century Downs.
Wyse shook the lines on his stallion as the wings folded, and Chaseisonthecase charged after the fast-leaving rail starter Outlaw Tootsieroll (Brandon Campbell), advancing parked out through the quarter in :28.2 with longshot Sammy Santana (Dave Kelly) three-wide. Chaseisonthecase secured the lead passing the stands and grabbed 2-1/2 lengths on the field to the half in :58.
Chaseisonthecase maintained his loose lead to three-quarters in 1:28.3 and turned for home with a sizable advantage, which he added to as he rolled to the wire to win by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:58.3. Nicotime (Logan Gillis), uncovered for much of the back half, finished second in a tough effort over Western Summit (Kelly Hoerdt).
Robert Wyse, a resident of Rocky View County, Alta., made his driving debut last month with Chaseisonthecase and finished fifth. He has been behind the stallion in all four drives to date.
Chaseisonthecase, a seven-year-old Mystery Chase-Warrawee Rose stallion, has won 19 times in 140 starts and has earned $131,619. He is trained by David Lamont, who co-owns him with Donna Wyse of Rocky View County and Glen Henderson of Okotoks.
Hoerdt closed out the eight-race card with a natural hat trick, driving three horses from his barn to victory. He first won with Sunset Rider ($4.10), who crushed fivals in the sixth race, doubled with Came A Cavalier ($10.10) in the seventh, and completed the triple with Outlaw Duke Worthy ($5.20) in a commanding win in the finale.
