Monti, Greene, And Kellogg Sweep Plainridge Features

The team of driver Drew Monti, trainer Jackie Greene, and owner Wayne Kellogg teamed up to win the pair of featured paces at Plainridge Park on Thursday, June 19, and both victories included lifetime-best clockings for a duo of former Canadian-based campaigners.
In the $33,784 Open Handicap Pace, Monti put Unrivaled Hanover on the point in a fast :26 split before Natameri (Nick Graffam) grabbed the lead in front of the stands. But Unrivaled Hanover was right back out and rolling, taking control of the race back before the :54.3 half. From there positions stayed mostly the same as they made their way up the backside where Grey Horizon (Mitchell Cushing) made a bid before the final turn. But heading into the stretch, it was Unrivaled Hanover who held off a very tough Natameri all the way to the wire as he won by a half-length in 1:50.2. Natameri had to settle for second while Fourever Boy (Brett Beckwith) finished third.
Unrivaled Hanover is now six-for-15 this season and has won 11 of 46 career starts. The four-year-old son of Bettors Delight-Upside Surprise paid $10.80 for the win.
Earlier in the card, in the $25,676 upper-level conditioned pace, Monti and Virtual Horizon traded the lead with Instant Replay (Kevin Switzer Jr.) before settling on the point for good past the :26.3 quarter. From there, Virtual Horizon led to the half in :54.3 and three-quarters in 1:22.4. Coming off the last turn and heading for home, the horses started bunching up, but Virtual Horizon finished strong to win by two lengths in a career best-tying 1:51 over the late-closing Naturally Gifted A (Aaron Byron). Instant Replay completed the ticket.
Virtual Horizon went back-to-back at Plainridge with Thursday's victory. The five-year-old, by Vertical Horizon-Saucy B, has racked up 23 lifetime victories in 62 appearances. He paid $5.60 in his third win in 10 tries this year.
Driver Bruce Ranger had a hat trick in the bike while trainers Randy Bickmore and Greene each scored two wins apiece on the afternoon.
Live racing will resume at Plainridge Park on Friday, June 20 at 4 p.m.
Looking forward to next week, the Tuesday, June 24 card of racing has been cancelled due to the forecast high heat index. However, the Monday, June 23 races are scheduled to go off as normal at 4 p.m.
