Midnight Mover Ends Shark Week's Century Downs Streak

Midnight Mover winning at Century Downs

Midnight Mover made a big move on the final turn to take down the streaking Shark Week in the $16,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Century Downs on Sunday, June 15.

Driver Brandon Campbell worked out the winning trip for the former $5,000 claiming pacer, who has climbed to the top class since being acquired by Manitoba's Trevor Williams and joining the Travis Ellis stable this spring.

Shark Week, perfect through his first five starts at the Century Downs meet, blasted off the gate from his assigned outside post seven for driver Mike Hennessy and was met with an inside challenge from Tin Can Timmy (Dave Kelly). Shark Week took command to the turn while Tin Can Timmy broke stride but quickly reset and moved into the gaping two-hole as the streaking favourite was fired up to the tune of a :26 quarter, leading by four lengths.

Hennessy got a breather for Shark Week to the half in :55.1, but had company at three-quarters in 1:23.3 after Midnight Mover charged three-wide from behind a first-over Matts A Mystician (Nathan Sobey). He quickly swept up from fifth to take on Shark Week turning for home.

The top two took off from the rest of the field into the stretch with Midnight Move moving ahead and pacing 3-1/4 lengths clear in deep stretch to earn his first Preferred victory and equal his lifetime mark of 1:51.2 taken three starts ago. Shark Week settled for second while General Custard (Logan Gillis) finished eight lengths back in third.

Midnight Mover earned his fourth victory in a dozen starts this year and paid $16 to win as the 7-1 third choice. His 15th career win pushed his earnings over the $100,000 mark.
