Century Invader, War Of Will Win At Vernon

Century Invader and War Of Will captured the conditioned co-features at Vernon Downs on Sunday, June 15.
In the $10,135 featured trot, Century Invader ($6.70), in line to John MacDonald, was first to the quarter in :27.1 and went unchallenged to the half in :57 and three-quarters in 1:26.3. As they reached the stretch, eventual second place finisher Topville Swift Dan (Jimmy Whittemore) came motoring out of the pocket and challenged Century Invader. Topville Swift Dan kept coming, but Century Invader dug in and won by a neck in 1:56. Jesmach On Target (Chris Long) finished third.
Century Invader, a six-year-old gelding by Resolve out of Lady Pixie, is owned by Leann Simek and trained by Joe Sansone. The win was his third this season in 17 starts and his 10th career victory.
War Of Will ($13.20) fired late to win the $10,135 featured pace. Capt Jack Hanover (MacDonald) led to the quarter in :26.2, then slowed things way down with a :30.1 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.3. Upallnightbluechip (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) came first-up to challenge going around the final turn and moved alongside Capt Jack Hanover at three-quarters in 1:25.1. As they entered the stretch, Capt Jack Hanover shook off Upallnightbluechip, but War Of Will came flying like a freight train for Brad Irvine and blew right on by to win in 1:52.2. Capt Jack Hanover collected the place cheque. Bluesville (Ron Harp) was third.
War Of Will earned his second win this season in seven tries, and the 15th of his career. Jeff Sorenson trains the six-year-old gelding by Captaintreacherous-Wishfor Rocknroll for Betcha Win Stables.
Whittemore and Huckabone-Miller had driving triples. Two of Whittemore's winners came from his own barn, and he tied with Dale Lawton for training wins on the day with a double.
