Arundel Hanover, Summer Lovn Win Series Finals

Arundel Hanover winning at Dresden Raceway

Arundel Hanover and Summer Lovn emerged victorious from a pair of stretch duels to take Little Saratoga Pacing Series titles on Sunday afternoon, June 15 at Dresden Raceway.

The series, formerly known as the Mark Austin Memorial Series, was for non-winners of one race or $5,000 lifetime as of March 31.

Arundel Hanover and driver Lorne House won a rematch with Dance Captain and Robert Doyle in the $14,100 final for male pacers. A winner in the lone series preliminary on June 1, Arundel Hanover went head-to-head with the pacesetting Dance Captain down the backstretch the final time and duked it out through the stretch. Arundel Hanover prevailed in a head decision for the 1:57.3 victory, paying $2.90 as the bettors' choice. Redneck Renegade, driven by Nick Steward, was the best of the rest.

A four-year-old in his debut racing season, Arundel Hanover is now six-for-eight. Trainer Greg Campbell shares ownership of the Betting Line-Australia Hanover gelding with Terrance Campbell of Grand Bend, Ont.

Fresh off a career-best 1:58.1 victory in the second leg, Summer Lovn and driver Alfie Carroll prevailed by half a length over favoured first leg winner Solidary Dancer and Garrett Rooney in the $14,300 final for fillies and mares. The pair battled past the tiring pacesetter with a quarter-mile to go and continued to fight it out to the finish, with Summer Lovn hitting the wire first in 1:59.3, paying $7 to win as the 5-2 second choice. Lajon Lilly and Lorne House rallied three-across to show.
