Zapaca

Zapaca dominated his opponents in the featured $7,534 conditioned trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday, June 14.

Zapaca ($7.50) went straight to the front for driver Frank Affrunti and led to the quarter in :27. His reign went unchallenged through middle splits of :57 and 1:26, and he found another gear at the top of the lane. He streaked clear down the stretch and won going away by 7-1/4 lengths in 1:55.0. Match My Miracle (Jimmy Whittemore) won the battle for second over Ladyyouaregorgeous (Leon Bailey).

Zapaca, an eight-year-old gelding by Yankee Glide-Vuokatti earned his first victory of the season with the impressive performance. He is owned by Devan Flood and trained by Gary Gibson. He now has 19 career victories.

Whittemore and Bailey each earned driving doubles on the nine-race card. Gary Gibson had a training double.
