Rockin Corona Upsets In Truro Winners Over

Rockin Corona

Rockin Corona pocket-popped to an upset victory in the  Winners Over at Truro Raceway at odds of 15-1 on Thursday, June 12.

Starting from the rail in the $2,500 top class, Rockin Corona assumed the pocket as the hard-leaving Good Friday Three (Jeff Ellis) glided past him to take point heading into the first turn. The pacesetter put up first-half fractions of :29 and :58.3 with the outer flow struggling to make headway.

Ernie Laffin launched Rockin Corona from the pocket as the field swung onto the backstretch, and he soared past Good Friday Three before three-quarters in 1:27. With no remaining threats, Rockin Corona cruised clear of the rest to a 5-1/4-length victory in 1:56.1.

Lady N Paradise (Clare MacDonald) finished second over the 1-9 favourite, Like A Glove (Marc Whebby). The win price was $33.80.

Rockin Corona notched his 12th career win with Thursday’s effort and raised his earnings to $50,530 in 65 lifetime starts. The gelding by Rockin Image, out of Rosagatha, has been a mainstay of the top pacing class at Truro since shipping in for owners Reginald Ferguson of Stratford, Wayne MacDonald of Montreal, and Aline Farrell of Moncton last spring. Darren Crowe conditions the five-year-old, who is now two-for-five this season.
