My Debt Collecter, Seventh Gen Collect NYSS Wins

Seventh Gen winning at Tioga Downs

Tioga Downs played host to a pair of $79,452 divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for sophomore trotting fillies on Friday, June 6.

My Debt Collecter ($4.30) continued her NYSS streak in the evening's first tilt, collecting her third straight win in the state-bred program with Tyler Buter driving for trainer Nifty Norman.

Best Story Ever (Tyler Miller) was first to the quarter in :28.4 then slowed things to a crawl as she led to the half in :59.4. My Debt Collecter made her move going first-over from fourth down the backstretch while Best Story Ever held a slight edge at three-quarters in 1:28.3. My Debt Collecter and Best Story Ever battled all the way down the stretch. My Debt Collector pulled ahead and won in 1:57.1 while Best Story Ever went on a break just before the wire and finished second but was placed third. Pink Chou Chou (Jeff Gregory) inherited the runner-up honours as a result of the placing.

My Debt Collector is a homebred filly by Chapter Seven out of Magic Presto, owned by David McDuffee of Delray Beach, Florida, Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, Ont., and Little E Llc of New York, New York. The consistent filly, who was the NYSS Championship runner-up as a rookie, improved her lifetime summary to 7-5-1 from 14 starts and boosted her bankroll over the half million-dollar mark.

Seventh Gen ($20.40) went from last to first to spring a 9-1 upset in her first NYSS victory for trainer/driver Jeff Gregory.

Royal Mission (Braxten Boyd) led to the first quarter in :27.2 then Chapvious (Frank Affrunti) went first-up to challenge as they headed to the half in :56. Sonmar Pond (Wally Hennessey) was next to challenge with a three-wide move at three-quarters while last year's NYSS divisional champion Royal Mission clung to a short lead at that marker in 1:25. As they reached the stretch, pocket-pursuer Pink Bomb (Tyler Buter) took over control, but Seventh Gen came flying down the stretch like she was shot out of cannon and won in a lifetime best of 1:55 by 2-1/4 lengths. Pink Bomb was the runner-up with Royal Mission fading to third.

Gregory also co-owns Seventh Gen with Jesmeral Stable of New Rochelle, New York. Making amends for a miscue last time out, the Chapter Seven-Model Behavior filly earned her first win from her initial three NYSS starts this year after going four-for-six racing in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as a two-year-old. The lion's share of the purse pushed her earnings into six-figure territory, totalling $127,685.

Three $27,397 Excelsior Series divisions were contested and the winners were El Nightwish, driven by Braxten Boyd, in 1:55 for trainer Lucas Wallin, Tuff Stuff in 1:56.3 for trainer/driver John Stark Jr., and Flashchap in 1:57 with Tyler Buter in the sulky for the George Ducharme stable.

Live harness racing returns to Tioga Downs on Saturday, June 7, with a post time of 6:15 p.m.
