Sophomores Head To Northfield For OHSS Leg

The second leg of the 2025 Ohio Sires Stakes (OHSS) for three-year-old fillies and colts is scheduled for Saturday (June 7) at MGM Northfield Park. There will be two divisions within each classification, with each of the eight races carrying a purse of $65,000 USD.
Seven of the eight divisions will feature winners from the first leg at Eldorado Scioto Downs on May 16-17.
Virgil Morgan Jr. will send filly pacers Odds On Chesapeake and Odds On Hialeah behind the gate as the favourites in their respective divisions. Both fillies are looking for their second OHSS victory in 2025.
Driven by Dan Noble, Odds On Chesapeake is the 4-5 favourite in the first division. The Downbytheseaside filly has won both of her starts in 2025, posting a lifetime-best 1:51.1 in the first leg of the OHSS. She is owned by Odds On Racing.
In the second division, Odds On Hialeah with Brett Miller is the 6-5 favourite and will be leaving from the rail. The Word Is Out (3-1) is the second choice. Odds On Hialeah posted a lifetime mark of 1:50.3 in her first seasonal start in the opening leg of the OHSS. The Lather Up filly is owned by Let It Ride Stables and Odds On Racing.
First-leg winners Aunt Laura and Dream Something will face off in the second division of three-year-old filly trotters. Leaving from the rail, Dream Something (7-5) enters as the slight favourite over Aunt Laura (2-1). Dream Something has two wins in two seasonal starts and won in a lifetime-best 1:53.3 in the opening leg of the OHSS. Tyler Smith will drive the Uncle Peter filly for trainer Miles Wollam, who co-owns the horse with Julie Ann Sweet. Miller will drive the Morgan Jr.-trained Aunt Laura. Owned by Joyce McClelland Stable, the Uncle Peter filly is seeking her third win in four starts this season.
Mega Money (3-2) is the favourite in the first division with second choice Mocha Hill (2-1). Driven by Aaron Merriman for trainer Chris Beaver, Mega Money has three wins and one second in four starts this season. The Triumphant Caviar filly is owned by Beaver, Patricia Stable, L.A. Express Stable, and Sjoblom Racing. Mocha Hill is still looking to prove herself this season, as she hasn’t hit the board in either of her two starts.
Chris Page is slated to drive the favourites in both divisions of colt pacers for trainer Ron Burke.
In the second division, Fear The Hate is the 7-5 favourite and is looking to stay undefeated through five starts this season. The Fear The Dragon colt is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Knox Services, and Beasty LLC. Downbythewater (4-1) is the second choice.
Opening-leg winner Rick Wink (6-5) is the favourite in the first division in what will be his second start of the season. The son of Bit Of A Legend N is owned by Burke Racing Stable, RAS Racing, Knox Services, and J&T Silva-Purnel & Libby. At 4-1, Jon I Love Dat is the second choice.
First-leg winner Vekna (9-2) opens as the co-third choice with What A Buckeye (9-2) behind favourite Lt Loverboy (2-1) and Hilltop Sonar (3-1) in the first division of colt trotters. Vekna has two wins in three starts this season for driver-trainer Kayne Kauffman. The Enterprise gelding is owned by Natalie Kauffman. Lt Loverboy is looking to rebound from a third-place finish in the second division of the first leg of the OHSS. He will be driven by Miller for trainer Daren Harvey.
After posting a win in the opening leg, Battle Hill will leave from the far outside as the 4-1 second choice in the second division behind 2-1 favourite Scrappys Love. The gelded son of Marseille, Battle Hill has three wins in four starts this year. Chris Lems will drive the Matthew Burkholder trainee for owner William Hartt. The Beaver-trained Scrappys Love will be driven by Noble.
The eight Ohio Sires Stakes races are part of a Grand Circuit card at MGM Northfield Park. The 16-race card also includes the $200,000 USD Battle of Lake Erie (Grade 2) and the $75,000 USD MGM Buckeye Distaff. Driven by Page, the Burke-trained Bythemissal enters as the 5-2 favourite in the Battle of Lake Erie. Burke also has the favourite in the Distaff with the Merriman-driven Naked On A Hill (3-1). The first race post time is 6 p.m.
