Jamieson Wins Five In A Row
Jody Jamieson, Canada’s reigning Driver of the Year, captured five consecutive dashes during Saturday night’s 12-race program at Woodbine Racetrack
.
The Moffat, Ont. resident crafted the impressive winning streak in races two through six.
Jamieson scored with the Ben Wallace-trained Clic K ($2.60, 1:50.4), who extended his win streak to seven, the Wayne Langille trainee Julians Caesar ($6.70, 1:54.3), followed by Red Zeppelin ($23.50, 1:55.1) for conditioner Dennis MacPherson. The reinsman returned to the winner’s circle with millionaire pacer Mystician ($3.70, 1:50.1) and then with Classic Alana ($10.60, 1:54.2) for O’Brien Award-winning trainer Jeff Gillis, who also saw Twin B Warrior win the seventh race with driver Sylvain Filion in the bike for three wins in a row from his stable.
Jamieson currently sits atop Woodbine's 2012 driver standings with 99 victories in 561 starts. He is also the leading reinsman for earnings in all of Canada this year with more than $2.04 million banked.
In the featured $50,000 Open Pace later on the card, driver Anthony MacDonald worked out the winning trip for Mike Weller trainee Ideal Choice for a 10-1 upset.
The six-year-old Western Ideal-My Baby And Me gelding protected his rail position through a :27 opening quarter forcing St Elmo Hero and Jamieson to take back into second before the first turn. However, St Elmo Hero refused to sit the pocket trip and swept out and around Ideal Choice down the backstretch.
St Elmo Hero led the way past the half in :55.4 and three-quarters in 1:23.1 while Ideal Choice pulled out for more. The top two battled head-to-head into the stretch with Ideal Choice pulling away to score by nearly three lengths in 1:49.4 over the closing even-money choice Aracache Hanover and Doug McNair. 'Elmo' had to settle for third place honours.
Indiana's BNB Stable LLC owns the winner, who returned $23.70 to his backers for a $2 win ticket. Ideal Choice is now four-for-15 this year with over $90,000 banked in purse earnings. Lifetime, he has won 14 races while earning $178,098.
Live standardbred racing returns to the Toronto oval Monday evening with the $50,000 Swing Into Spring Trotting Series final. The 12-race program gets underway at 7:10 p.m.
