Emoticon Legacy Impressive In Mohawk Qualifiers

Emoticon Legacy

The Grand Circuit stakes-winning trotting colt Emoticon Legacy sharpened up for his sophomore season with his fourth straight qualifying victory -- this one a 14-length romp in 1:54.3 -- on Monday, June 2 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

In Monday morning's third qualifier for three-year-old trotters, driver Louis-Philippe Roy left from the outside post eight with the Luc Blais-trained colt who was a player in the big dances last year competing in the William Wellwood, Mohawk Million and Breeders Crown. Emoticon Legacy was in a race of his own as he carved out fractions of :30.1, :59.1 and 1:27.3 then kicked home in :27. Ellice Island and Luvutothemoonanbak finished back in second and third, respectively.

Owned and bred by Determination, the Walner colt out of the O'Brien Award winning-mare Emoticon Hanover won four of his seven starts as a freshman, including a division of the Champlain Stakes, earning $220,637.

Emotion Legacy's Muscle Hill sister Drawn Impression and his dam's Greenshoe sibling Emoji Hanover were also in action in a qualifier won by the Desiree Jones-trained four-year-old mare Tactical Strike, who trotted a :26.2 final quarter in rein to Bob McClure to catch tempo-setter Waterfall in 1:54.2.
