Demers Scores Hat Trick In Flamboro Meet Closer

Trainer Gerard Demers positioned himself as the star of the card on Saturday, May 31 at Flamboro Downs, picking up the training triple as the Hamilton-area oval hosted the final card of its spring meet.
Demers exchanged pleasantries with the track photographer thanks to the exploits of trotting filly Bluebird Twinkle (2:01.1; $2.50) in the second race, pacing mare Wicked Discovery (1:56.1; $11.50) in the fifth and the popular and prolific pacer Del Diggity (1:55.1; $3.30) in the ninth dash. All three of those horses were guided to victory by Daryl Thiessen, who enjoyed a hat trick at Flamboro after an afternoon four-bagger during the season opener at Hanover Raceway.
All told, Gerard Demers sent out six horses on the Saturday card at Flamboro and finished the night with a noteworthy 3-1-1 summary. After a career year in 2024 with bests in wins (151) and earnings ($1.12 million), Demers continues to post very respectable numbers in 2025. He ranks in the top 10 for Canadian conditioners with $433,614 in seasonal earnings and third in the country with 61 victories.
Live harness racing takes a break at Flamboro Downs for the next three months with sister track Georgian Downs starting its summer meet on Saturday, June 7. The next card at Flamboro Downs is slated for Saturday, Sept. 7.
