Merigo Magic Magnificent In Red Shores Preferred

Merigo Magic, winning at Charlottetown

Merigo Magic turned on the jets late to pull off a Preferred Pace score in the Saturday finale on May 31 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Adam Merner was in the bike for the $5,500 Preferred class victory, as his trainee tracked down pacesetter Twin B Tuffenuff (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) for a 1:56.1 clocking. Now a 19-time winner with more than $219,000 in earnings, Merigo Magic ($5.90) gobbled up ground in the stretch drive, unloading a :27.2 closing panel for owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid, Derrick Cameron and Ian Walker. Third went to a hard-closing High Voltage Deo (Corey MacPherson).

The victory capped off a training and driving double on the night for Merner, as Bacononabiscuit ($10.50) was placed the winner of the seventh race following the disqualification of Almanac (David Dowling) in a readjusted time of 1:57.1.

Dowling tripled in the race bike on the card as The Tulsa King ($2.80) won the opener for trainer Mike McGuigan, Hes Touring ($6.50) was a winner for the Clair Sweet stable in the second race in 1:58.2 and Like A King ($2.10) scored in 1:58 for the Jennifer Doyle barn in Race 12.

Ashley Gamester had a training double on the card winning Race 10 with Bee Two Bee ($2.10) in 1:55.4 and Race 8 courtesy Laughagain Hanover ($2.60) in 1:59.1, both in line to Jason Hughes.
