Western Fair Forecast Calls For 'Stormy' Preferred

Charmbo Stormy was the forecasted winner of the $11,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace on Friday, May 23 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and the 8-5 favourite blew by her rivals turning for home, landing back in the winner's circle for the second time this month.
After securing early position in third through a quick :27.3 opening quarter, driver Austin Sorrie made the winning move at the :56.4 half and Charmbo Stormy took on pacesetter Sports Duchess (Daryl Thiessen) down the backstretch to three-quarters in 1:25.1. Taking over command with a quarter-mile to go, Charmbo Stormy drew three lengths clear for the victory in 1:54.4. Fated Fire (Samuel Fillion) closed off the winner's cover to place while Saulsbrook Olympia (J Harris) shot through inside of Sports Duchess to grab third prize.
Charmbo Stormy, who paid $5.30 to win, has found success in two of her last three starts competing in Western Fair's top distaff class. She now has six victories on the season from 15 outings, good for $62,770 in earnings for trainer Jared Mann and owner Ronald Nobes of Fergus, Ont. Lifetime, the seven-year-old Sportswriter-Charmbo Lucky mare has won 22 races and $178,179 in purses.
