Three In A Row For Put On A Show
After two strong winning performances in her return to Canada last month, double millionaire mare Put On A Show took a week off, but got back to work Friday night with a four length triumph in the $42,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Woodbine Racetrack
.
Last week's Open winner Laneside Lexus and driver Billy Davis Jr. worked their way to the lead around Put On A Show and Jody Jamieson into the first turn. Laneside Lexus cleared before the :26.2 opening quarter mark before backing down the pace. She reached the half in :56 and three-quarters in 1:25.1 before spinning into the stretch with a leading margin of nearly two lengths.
However, Put On A Show sprung into action at the head of the lane and blew by the pacesetter with a :26.1 final frame. Put On A Show powered home to score by four and a quarter lengths in 1:51.4. Laneside Lexus stayed for second while Do Me Honor rallied home for third.
Put On A Show paid $3.50 to win as the 3-5 favourite. The five-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover and Stienams Place, who missed her four-year-old campaign, is trained by Chris Ryder for owners Craig Henderson of Chicago, Illinois, and Richard and Joanne Young of Coconut Creek, Florida. The victory was her third in a row and 22nd lifetime.
Jamieson also drove World Record holder Big McDeal in her sophomore debut for trainer-owner Jack Darling one race prior. After an outside post 10 start, the McArdle-Ideal Gal miss sprinted home in :26.4 from the back of the pack to show. The Luc Ouellette-driven Southwind Lavanda edged out last year's Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Championship winner Eat Me Up and Sylvain Filion for the win in 1:54.3.
