Dresden To Celebrate 150 Years Of Racing

Dresden Raceway will celebrate 150 years of harness racing in Dresden, Ont. this weekend when the 2025 season kicks off with a nine-race matinee on Sunday, May 25.
Well known as "Ontario's Little Saratoga," the half-mile oval will feature live racing on Sundays through July followed by the meet finale on the Civic Holiday, Monday, Aug. 4. Post time for all 11 race days will be 1 p.m.
The 150th anniversary celebrations will include draws for prizes on Opening Day and a look back on the broadcasting history of Dresden Raceway the following week when the track hosts Broadcasting Day on June 1. Other race day events include Dresden's annual Veterans Day at the races on June 8 and Father's Day on June 15.
The 2025 season's top races will include an Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Series leg and multiple Prospect Series events scheduled for June 8, July 20, July 27 and Aug. 4. In addition, the track's Little Saratoga Pacing Series will run on race days through the first half of June.
This Sunday's Opening Day feature is the $5,000 seventh race, a conditioned optional $15,000 claiming pace with Taylors Credit the 8-5 morning line favourite from post two after racing at the Preferred level at Western Fair Raceway this spring for trainer/driver Natasha Day. Dresden's defending driving champion Garrett Rooney will have his pick of a pair of starters in the five-horse field after being listed on Jason Sherman trainee Jimsun with the inside draw and post four starter All The Cheddar, who is trained by Kathryn Cochrane.
