Caviar N Crackers Triples In Mohawk Mares Preferred

Caviar N Crackers winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Driver Ed Hensley and trainer Ashleigh Hensley's Caviar N Crackers journeyed first-over to win her third straight $36,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park, topping the season-debuting O'Brien Award winner Its A Love Thing.

Caviar N Crackers advanced first-over from fifth during the third quarter and accelerated home in :26.4 to win in 1:50.2 by 1-1/2 lengths over a powerful pair of Dave Menary trainees. Its A Love Thing (James MacDonald), the 4-5 favourite, closed with a fury from last of seven to nab the runner-up role from stablemate Century Jamila (Bob McClure), who was still game in the stretch after leading through a :26.4 opening panel as she escaped from behind the fading middle-half leader Tells On A Roll.

Caviar N Crackers paid $6.70 to win as the 2-1 second choice. Her recent Preferred success has extended her win streak to four, with her earnings climbing to $92,840 through 16 seasonal starts.

Bred by Rod Starkewski, the five-year-old daughter of Captive Audience out of former Alberta Horse of the Year Crackers Hot Shot has racked up 16 victories lifetime and purse earnings totalling $345,681.

Ladyterra ($3.30) and Bob McClure completed a sweep of a three-week Pop-Up Series on Friday, winning the $25,000 final with a 1:51.3 career-best effort for trainer Zachary Carroll and owner Karen Carroll. This series was for non-winners of $20,000 or not averaging $1,700 per start in 2025 in a minimum of eight starts.
