Tobins Brownie Favoured In CDP Mares Preferred

Tobins Brownie

Tobins Brownie makes her way back to the races after a winter break for her seven-year-old season and is the top choice in the Thursday, May 15 top class at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has 10 dashes starting at 6 p.m.

The $4,200 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 pacing feature has 2024 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series champion Tobins Brownie leaving from post four with Marc Campbell in tow for trainer Earl Watts and owners Sandra Weeks and Brittany Watts. The gritty Stonebridge Terror-Putnam Mackenzie mare is a 37-time winner in her career with more than $211,000 in lifetime earnings. The pacing lass was a qualifying winner in 1:57.4 for driver Adam Merner, who is in Nova Scotia on Thursday evening competing in stakes action.

Second to Tobins Brownie in that qualifier is post five entry Sugar Bowl, to be driven by Gilles Barrieau, for trainer Jeff Holmes and owners Brian MacPhee and Tommy Collings. A seven-time winner in 2024, Sugar Bowl is labelled as a major threat for the top spot on Thursday.

Plain Jane (Brady Sweet) holds down post one for trainer Devon Wallace and owners Leigh and Faith Gavin after finishing second at this level last week. The winner of that race was the upset minded Ms Meaghan Sparkel (Ryan Desroche), who has post three this week for owner/trainer Shayna Toll.

Also in the field is post two entry Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes). The 38-time winner is trained by Ashley Gamester for Donald MacRae.

The Post Time Picks goes with post five entry Sugar Bowl as its selection to win: “Sugar Bowl’s 2024 numbers hop off the page and she did visit the winner’s circle seven times. She draws post five in a compact field, and this has become a great partnership so don’t be shocked if they win again.”

The $4,000 trot feature lines up in race eight with Buckhead Ridge (Barrieau) vying for a repeat victory from the Landon Campbell barn. Brady Doyle owns the five-year-old son of Nuncio-Tuonela. His main foes are slated as Glider Man (Hughes) and New Legacy (David Dowling).

Final Text (Marc Campbell) will make his first P.E.I. start in the trot event from post five for owners Matt and David Burke. The four-year-old daughter of Text Me-Captain Megan already has two wins and $23,000 in earnings in 2025 while racing in Pennsylvania and New York.
