Scioto Stakes Payments Due May 15

Racing at Scioto Downs

Nominations must be postmarked no later than Thursday, May 15 for the Charlie Hill Trot, Jim Ewart Pace and the Jug Preview, all of which will be raced on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Eldorado Scioto Downs this year.

With the first of three deadlines having passed for nominations, the Next Generation two-year-old colt trot has filled, leaving nomination opportunity for those with a two-year-old colt pacer, filly pacer or filly trotter.

Nominations are still open for both paces and the filly trot Next Generation events, with each filly division having six nominations received and the colt pace division having seven. Those interested in securing a spot in any of those three divisions can make a $10,000 USD nomination by May 15.

Each division is limited to nine entrants with spots needing purchased in order for the event to fill. If more than three or two nomination spots, respectively, are received for that division, a lottery drawing will be held only between those nominations received since the April 15 deadline; anyone who submitted an $8,000 USD nomination by April 15 is guaranteed a spot. All Next Generation events, for Ohio-sired two-year-olds, will be held on Saturday, July 5.

The $500 USD nomination for the Charlie Hill Trot and Jim Ewart Pace (for aged horses), as well as for the Jug Preview for three-year-olds, are also due May 15.

The Ewart and Hill events will each go for $250,000 USD; the Jug Preview is estimated to go for $225,000 USD. The Jug Preview is making its renaissance debut after being held each year from 1979 through 2007, then once again in 2017. The last winner was Ohio’s leading sire, Downbytheseaside. In addition to the purse, the winner of the Jug Preview will have their entry fee for The Little Brown Jug paid by Scioto Downs.
