Railee Something Rebounds In Oak Grove Open

Enduring burdensome trips in her previous two outings, Railee Something found a smooth tow into the action and surged off a helmet to grab the gold in the $45,833 Open Handicap Trot at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel on Monday, May 12.

Leaving from post six, driver Joey Putnam floated Railee Something off the wings and parked to a :27 first quarter carved by pylon-starter Country Mamma (Andy Shetler). Putnam pushed forward, moving by the stands for the first time and successfully flushed cover from Oh Look Magic (Trace Tetrick), moving for a :56.4 half. Railee Something cruised on the cover up the backstretch while Oh Look Magic applied compounding pressure to Country Mamma in a head-to-head battle to three-quarters in 1:24.2.

Oh Look Magic slid forward through the turn while Putnam wound three wide off the bottom corner to power forward with Railee Something in the stretch. She then waded the late charge of Keg Stand (Jeremy Indof) in the closing strides to notch a three-quarter length win in 1:53.2 with Oh Look Magic settling for third.

A five-year-old homebred daughter of International Moni-Railee Priti for owner Ronald Mersky, Railee Something has now won 23 races from 50 starts and earned $1,122,582. Roger Cullipher trains the mare, who paid $3.34 to win.

Live racing continues at Oak Grove next Monday, May 19, at a new post time of 1:25 p.m. (CDT).
