Tyrone Bow Tie, Mythic Gambler Take Rideau Preferreds

Mythic Gambler winning at Rideau Carleton Raceway

It was a double dose of Preferred Handicap action at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Wednesday, May 7, with both a $10,000 trot and pace on the card. Tyrone Bow Tie and Mythic Gambler made the most of their opportunities, each scoring impressive wins.

In the Preferred Handicap Trot, a compact but competitive field of five lined up behind the gate. Speed came from the outside trio, with Impressive Dude (Guy Gagnon) charging to the front, followed by Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot) in the pocket. Driver Ryan Guy settled 1-2 favourite Tyrone Bow Tie into third. The trotters clicked off an opening quarter in :27.3 and remained single file past the half in :57.2, with Impressive Dude setting a solid tempo. As the field approached three-quarters in 1:26.3, Tyrone Bow Tie tipped out and launched his bid. The two leaders battled down the stretch, but Tyrone Bow Tie surged past late to score by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:56. Impressive Dude held second, while Raising Rusty used his pocket trip to finish third.

Mike Armstrong trains the five-year-old gelded son of Lookslikeachpndale out of Risk Seeker for owners Cynthia Graham of Warkworth, Ont., Marc Mailloux of Windsor, Ont., and Gillian Keating of Courtenay, B.C. This win marked the second straight Preferred-level victory for Tyrone Bow Tie and the third win of his 2025 campaign. He now boasts seven career wins and has earned $21,066 this season, pushing his lifetime bankroll to $79,491.

The Preferred pacers hit the track in Race 5. Tignanello (Ryan Guy) fired off the gate, but Early Action (Pascal Berube) quickly brushed to command a :27.4 opening quarter. The field passed the half in :57.2 before 4-5 favourite Mythic Gambler and driver Robert Shepherd made their first-over move from third. He edged up to challenge at three-quarters in 1:25.4 and went head-to-head with Early Action around the final turn. Down the lane, Mythic Gambler dug in and edged clear to win in 1:53.4 by 1-1/2 lengths. Early Action held for second, while I Ama Rocket (Marie-Claude Auger) closed stoutly to take third. Notably, Mythic Gambler has won every race with driver Robert Shepherd at the controls.

A seven-year-old gelded son of Bettors Delight out of Mythical, Mythic Gambler (pictured above) is trained by Catherine Girard for Kozen Farms of La Prairie, Que. This was his second win of the season and 14th lifetime. His 2025 earnings now total $9,250, with a career bankroll of $63,592.
