Dealin With Dewey Back In Buffalo Winner's Circle

Dealin With Dewey winning at Buffalo Raceway

The field in Buffalo Raceway's $20,139 Open Handicap Trot on Friday afternoon, May 2 found out they couldn't deal with Dealin With Dewey as he used a stout performance to hold back Big Baller Beane in 1:57.2 over the fast track.

Being assigned the seven post, the heavily favoured Ontario invader Dealin With Dewey ($3) showed plenty of will power and heart in producing the victory.

Able to zip to the front end at the start, Dealin With Dewey and driver Brett MacDonald put up splits of :29.2, :59.3 and 1:28.1. Things got interesting approaching the three-quarter marker as El Toro Loco (Kevin Cummings) was on even terms with Dealin With Dewey while Big Baller Beane (Joseph Chindano Jr.) tagged along in the garden spot.

Heading around the final turn, El Toro Loco threw in the towel with Big Baller Beane trying to get into contention. While getting ever so close, Big Baller Beane just couldn't get past the stubborn Dealin With Dewey, who never wavered in scoring the hard fought neck win. Big Baller Beane had to settle for second with Makes Me Charlie (Mike Caprio) was third.

Owned and trained by Sara Baillargeon of Guelph, Ont., Dealin With Dewey (Wheeling N Dealin-Rockin With Dewey) is a seven-year-old gelding that has taken four wins in nine tries in 2025, including two of his last three starts at Buffalo. A 21-time career winner, he now boasts nearly $370,000 in lifetime earnings.

In the top event on the undercard, Skyway Professor ($3.10) kept his stellar performances going in 2025 with a 1:59.2 one-length victory over E Street in the $15,278 conditioned trot. For Skyway Professor, he has hit the board in all six starts on the year, four of which were wins.

Johnny Boy (David McNeight III) cruised out of the gate and went to the top and produced fractions of :29.2, :59.1 and 1:29.1. Meanwhile, Skyway Professor and Drew Monti waited patiently behind the leader and made their move on the outside as the field turned for home.  From there, Skyway Professor escaped some commotion with some minor breaks in the lane and held off the late charge of E Street (Joseph Chindano Jr.) while Mucho Macho (Kevin Cummings) hit the wire third.

Co-owned by New York's Out In The Country Stable and Daniel Tybor Jr., the six-year-old Skyway Professor (Swan For All-Trismatica) is closing in on $250,000 in lifetime earnings after his 19th score.

Mike Baumeister, Chindano Jr. and Monti all had driving doubles on the program with Jacob Baumeister getting a pair of training wins.

Racing will return on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with another 11-race card slated. There's a $1,053 carryover in the Pick 5, which begins in the second race.
