Beep Bop A Lula scored from a perfect pocket trip to take the $16,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs on Wednesday, April 30. 

The even money favourite Outlaw Sharktastic (Nathan Sobey) was quickest off the gate to take command, with Beep Bop A Lula and driver David Kelly settling into the pocket through a :27.4 opening quarter. The tempo remained sharp with no early pressure as the field hit the half in :56.2. Down the backside, Daisy Corvette (Brandon Campbell) launched a first-over move from third, but Beep Bop A Lula remained poised in the two-hole as they reached three-quarters in 1:24.3.

Turning for home, Beep Bop A Lula used her trip to full advantage, surging late up the pylons to win by a neck in a sharp 1:53.1 and returning $10.30. Outlaw Sharktastic was second, and Daisy Corvette rounded out the top three.

The five-year-old daughter of Vertical Horizon out of Jerrys Girl is trained and driven by Kelly, who co-owns the mare with Don McDougall and Dan McDougall of Calgary, Alta. The win marked her fourth of the season and the tenth of her career. After going winless in 22 starts last year, Beep Bop A Lula has made a strong turnaround in 2025 with four wins from 11 starts, including back-to-back victories against top-class mares at Century Downs. Her seasonal earnings now sit at $29,595, boosting her lifetime total to $129,303.

Live harness racing resumes on Saturday, May 3 at 12:45 p.m. (MDT) when Century Downs will host its annual Cinco de Derby Fiesta featuring a full day of entertainment, including Chihuahua races, contests, complimentary tastings from Born Brewing Co. and El Tequileño, traditional Mexican dancing and music, as well as festive food offerings trackside and in the Derby Restaurant. There will also be live streaming of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs available inside the Off-Track Betting (OTB) lounge.
