Grand Circuit Stops At Plainridge Park Thursday

The Grand Circuit makes its first 2025 visit to Plainridge Park on Thursday, May 1 as the track hosts the $100,000 USD Paul Revere Pace for three-year-olds.
A full field of nine pacers will go postward in what appears to be a wide open betting event that features a Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta wager with a $3,764 carryover pool.
Some of the main contenders include Primo Maschio (Badlands Hanover-Primadonna), who was a winner of nearly $240,000 last year that came from nine wins and two seconds in only 11 starts and included stakes victories in the six-figure finals of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund Stakes at both Harrington Raceway and Dover Downs. This year, Primo Maschio is a perfect three-for-three, all in Delaware stakes action, and he comes in fresh off a qualifying tightener after a three-week break. Trainer Kevin Lare has called on Walter Case Jr. to steer and they drew post three for the start.
Starting from pylon position will be Dune Buggy (Huntsville-Dune In Red), who is coming off a very impressive win in the Bobby Weiss Series consolation at Pocono Downs. He tipped at the half and powered his way to a two-length, 1:51.3 lifetime-best victory. After a slow career start at two, Dune Buggy has yet to miss a cheque this year, and with the good draw, should be a major factor here for trainer Nick Devita, who has driver Tim Tetrick in the bike again for this outing.
Waterfront (Papi Rob Hanover-DB Blue Chip) was a consistent stakes performer in Pennsylvania at two, but hasn't seen the track since August of last year. That said, he turned in a sparkling performance in his seasonal debut qualifier at Pocono where he won easily in 1:53.2 with a :27 flat kicker. Jason Bartlett will be onboard for trainer Hunter Oakes, leaving from post four. Waterfront gets the nod as the 7-2 morning line favourite.
Ayeaye Captain Deo (Captaintreacherous-Oceana) amassed more than $85,000 in earnings at two while showing good foot in Ontario stakes action that included some very impressive performances in the Dream Maker Pacing Series at Woodbine Mohawk Park. And after two solid qualifiers to start this year, Ayeaye Captain Deo reeled off a 2-1/4-length, 1:53.4 win in his initial overnight outing (pictured above) that was also at Mohawk. Todd McCarthy makes the trip to New England to drive for trainer Garry Merner and they will get underway from post two.
Completing the field, in posts five through nine, are: Jackson Cooper (Austin Siegelman), RJs Red Devil (Matt Kakaley), Bulldozer (Brett Beckwith), Fort Lauderdale (Nick Graffam), JMs Best Bet (Greg Merton).
The Paul Revere Pace is carded as race six on the 11-race program and is scheduled to go off at 5:40 p.m. Post time for the first race at Plainridge Park is 4 p.m.
