DP Freedoms Chrome Cruises In Oak Grove Open

Driver Peter Wrenn placed 7-2 second choice DP Freedoms Chrome on the point and the our-year-old stallion responded to every challenge while striding away to a 1:53.3 victory in the $45,833 Open Trot at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel on Tuesday, April 29.
Leaving from post six in the afternoon's feature, DP Freedoms Chrome crossed to the lead after a five-high charge off the wings and clicked by the first quarter in :27. Wrenn wrangled his charge for a breather to a :55.4 half, where Oh Look Magic (Trace Tetrick) pushed first-up from fifth on the rim with 1-2 favourite Railee Something (Joey Putnam) in tow. Oh Look Magic mounted mild pressure on DP Freedoms Chrome moving to three-quarters in 1:24 and found room to tuck into a pocket with Alana Hill (Lewayne Miller) tiring to the far turn. Railee Something then marched uncovered after DP Freedoms Chrome, but once Wrenn pulled the plugs the leader scooted away. DP Freedoms Chrome widened his lead to cross the finish 3-1/4 lengths better than Railee Something with Oh Look Magic settling for third.
A stallion by For You Almostfree and last season's Minnesota Horse of the Year, DP Freedoms Chrome collected his 25th win from 35 starts and has now earned nearly $360,000 for owner Aimes Racing of Elma, Iowa. Wayne Oke trains the trotter, who returned $9.22 to win at the betting windows.
Racing continues at Oak Grove on Monday, May 5 and features a pair of carryovers. The 20-cent Pick 5, beginning in Race 3, has a carryover of $643.94 and the $1 Pick 4, beginning in Race 8, has a double carryover worth $7,746.19. First-race post time at Oak Grove is 1:45 p.m. (CDT).
