Borth Sweeps Western Fair Preferreds

Driver Tyler Borth swept both $12,000 Preferreds, which highlighted the Tuesday, April 15 card at The Raceway at Western Fair District, steering Hollys Treasure home in the Preferred Pace before delivering a 9-1 upset with April Duford in the Preferred Trot that immediately followed.
Hollys Treasure left from post two as the even-money favourite in the Preferred Pace and quickly grabbed command of the field eight to the quarter pole in :28.4. Hollys Treasure went unchallenged to the halfway point in :58.3 before It Takes Two (Lorne House) powered first-over from fourth and moved to the leader's wheel at three-quarters in 1:26.4.
Hollys Treasure responded to the challenge, seating It Takes Two in a loose pocket as the favourite turned for home 1-3/4 lengths clear. The lead continued to grow in the lane, with Hollys Treasure cruising by 3-1/2 lengths on the line to stop the timer in 1:56.1. It Takes Two held for second and Drinkin Buddy (Austin Sorrie) finished third, 8-1/4 lengths behind the winner.
The victory was the third straight and fourth of the season from 13 starts for Hollys Treasure, who is trained by Cassidy Schneider for her father, owner and breeder Colonel Schneider Jr. The seven-year-old gelded son of State Treasurer-L H Hollys Cam has now banked $205,456 following his 30th career victory.
In the very next race, Borth utilized off the pace tactics to score the victory in the featured trot with April Duford at 9-1.
Leaving from the second tier in post eight, Borth and April Duford got away in fifth while pinned to the pylons as Insanity (Jason Ryan) laid down an opening quarter of :28.2 on the engine. Insanity continued to lead to the half in :58.2 while April Duford continued to be a boxed-in sixth as The Great Reset (Lorne House) was unable to find a seat in the first half. Room came to April Duford on the backstretch, moving to the outer flow from fourth as Insanity looked for an 11-1 upset of his own through three-quarters in 1:28.3.
Borth tipped April Duford three-wide around the final turn, making it a three-across battle for the lead as Marvin Hagler (Brett MacDonald) raced between her and Insanity turning for home. The trio continued to battle in the lane, with April Duford timing her rally just right to nail Insanity on the wire by a neck in 2:00.2. Marvin Hagler held for the show spot a length behind the winner.
April Duford is now a five-time winner in 2025 through 12 seasonal outings. The Dennis Duford homebred five-year-old daughter of Il Sogno Dream-Cha Cha Slide is trained by Ashley Duford and the 15-time career winner sports lifetime earnings of $104,731.
