Mack Upsets In Harrington Opening Feature

On the opening night of Harrington Raceway’s 79th season of live harness racing, Mack and driver Jim Morand sprung an upset in the $23,611 featured Delaware Special on Monday, April 14.

The eight-year-old Mach Three-Backstreet Sweetie gelding took advantage of drifting favourite Downers Delight (Pat Berry), who veered off the pylons in the stretch. Mack surged up the inside late to steal the victory by a neck in 1:52.2, denying Downers Delight his bid for a sixth consecutive win. Downers Delight, who set the pace before bearing out on the final turn, had to settle for second, while Hundred Dollar Man (Montrell Teague) closed for third.

Trained by Joe Columbo, Mack earned his 26th career victory, pushing his lifetime earnings to $706,046. He is owned by George and Tina Dennis of Wyoming, Delaware.

Montrell Teague led all drivers on the night with three wins, while Jim Morand and Tony Morgan each picked up two victories on the opening card.

Live harness racing at Harrington continues on a Monday through Wednesday schedule, with a first post time of 4:30 p.m.
