Railee Something Returns; Bates Secures 2,000th Victory

A winner in a Kentucky Sire Stakes final last season, Ronald Mersky's talented International Moni mare Railee Something made a powerful 2025 debut on Tuesday, April 8 at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel while delivering as the 1-2 chalk in the $42,857 Open Trot. The win was one of three on the day for driver Brandon Bates, who score his 2,000th driving victory in the finale.
Leaving from post eight, Bates muscled Railee Something to the point through a :27.3 first quarter and just cruised through the remainder. She clocked a :57.3 half and widened her lead to three-quarters in 1:26, all in progress to a 5-1/2-length win in 1:55.3. DP Freedoms Chrome (Peter Wrenn) vaulted from last to snag second from Oh Look Magic (Trace Tetrick), who parked most of the mile, in third. Sweet Mr Pinetucky (Marvin Luna) gave futile chase off a pocket trip and settled for fourth.
A five-year-old millionaire homebred for Ronald Mersky, Railee Something has won 21 of her 46 starts. She paid $3.10 to win.
The win was one of three on the card for Brandon Bates, who secured his 2,000th career driving victory aboard Talk Racy To Me in the 12th race for trainer Jim Brinson.
Racing continues at Oak Grove on Monday, April 14. First-race post time is 1:45 p.m. (CDT).
