Elegant A Wires The Field At Dover

Elegant A delivered a coast-to-coast victory in the $35,714 Mares Open Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday, March 26.

Tim Tetrick utilized the quick gait speed of Elegant A, forcing Incaseyoudidntknow (Jim Morand) and Ludacrous A (Corey Callahan) to take early seats. With control of the pace, Elegant A cruised through the opening quarter in :27.1, maintaining an uncontested lead as the field remained in single file. She continued to dictate the tempo, reaching the half in :55.2 with a :28.1 second quarter.

Heading down the backstretch, 6-5 favourite Incaseyoudidntknow launched a first-over bid from fourth, towing Phoenix Rising (Jason Thompson), a Rosecroft Raceway invader, into the mix second-over. Meanwhile, Ludacrous A was content to sit in the pocket. Despite the looming challenges, Elegant A remained in command, hitting three-quarters in 1:23.4.

Turning for home, Incaseyoudidntknow tried to mount a late charge, while Ludacrous A had every opportunity along the pylons but failed to fire. Elegant A dug in gamely, showing her class to prevail in 1:52.3 by 1-1/4 lengths. She returned $10 for the win. Incaseyoudidntknow settled for second, while Ludacrous A rounded out the trifecta.

Owned by Pollack Racing LLC and trained by Jeff Cullipher, Elegant A is a seven-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Spokeswoman. The victory marked her 22nd career win, pushing her lifetime earnings to $272,444.

Earlier on the card, Tilted Crown and Bella Artiste captured their respective divisions of the Bally’s Dover Late Closer for three-year-old pacing fillies.

The highlight on Thursday, March 27 is the $27,500 USD Blue Hen/Open Handicap Pace, where Itsrockandroll A seeks a repeat victory, while Wehadababyitzaboy looks to play spoiler.

Carryover mania continues Thursday with a Pick 4 carryover worth $2,606 beginning in the second race, as well as a $2,077 Pick 5 carryover that will start in the sixth race.

Bally’s Dover races Monday through Thursday with a first post time of 4:30 p.m.
