The Good Doctor Heats Up In Saratoga Open Ranks

The Good Doctor is establishing himself as a formidable Open pacer at Saratoga Casino Hotel in the first month of the racing season.
The Jaymes McAssey trainee kicked off the 2025 season with a victory in the first Open Pace on Feb. 2, then followed up with a strong second-place finish in his next start. Sent off as the 2-1 second choice in the $21,429 Open Pace on Sunday, Feb. 23, The Good Doctor had Shawn Gray in the sulky when he tipped outside to challenge longshot leader Just Plain Loco (Jim Devaux). The five-year-old surged past with authority, opening up an insurmountable lead around the final turn before cruising to a nearly three-length victory in 1:54.1.
Mansome (Ron Cushing) was the longest shot on the board at odds of 44-1 when he closed to finish second while Just Plain Loco held on for third.
The Good Doctor, a son of American Ideal out of V String, is owned by Morrison Racing Stables. The pacer paid $6.80 to win and led an exacta and triple that returned $191.50 and $913, respectively.
Reinsman Jimmy Devaux piloted six winners on the Sunday card, including three for trainer Andrew Adamczyk, who had four victories on the afternoon in total.
Live harness racing continues on Monday afternoon with a matinee that begins at 12 p.m.
