Jabberwocky No Joke In Mohawk Preferred

After winning four starts in 27 outings in 2024, Jabberwocky has cut the nonsense in 2025.
So far, the six-year-old gelded son of Hes Watching - Art Sale is perfect in three seasonal appearances with two of those tallies coming in the top class at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Closing to win his last start by a half length two weeks ago, he returned on Saturday, Feb. 22 for another come-from-behind half-length tally in the $36,000 Preferred Pace.
Trevor Henry got the call on Jabberwocky for his Preferred Pace assignment, and landed the 9-5 second choice in sixth behind 4-5 favourite Powertrain (James MacDonald) as No Control towed Jody Jamieson through fractions of :29.1, :58.3 and 1:25.4 over the track rated two seconds off. At the three-quarter mark, Jabberwocky was stacked up third over behind an advancing Whatchulookin At (Louis-Philippe Roy) and second over Powertrain.
Once MacDonald hit the head of the lane, he flipped Powertrain off that cover to take aim at the tempo-setter. Henry followed that move, angled Jabberwocky off the helmet of MacDonald, and launched his own late bid. Powering home through a :27.3 final quarter, Jabberwocky jetted past Powertrain in the final strides for the 1:54.2 decision. Poseidon Seelster found room up the inside to mount a stretch rally for driver Bob McClure, but fell a nose short of Powertrain to finish third.
As Rick Zeron Stables, Rick Zeron trains and co-owns Jabberwocky ($5.80) with James Walker of Port Perry, Ont., Johnny Marvento of Montreal, Que., and Earn It To Burn It Stable of King City, Ont. The pacer's three wins this year provide 17 in his career with earnings of more than $390,000.
