Miller Sweeps Spring Survivor Finals
Driver David Miller swept both Spring Survivor Series finals with favourites Breakin The Law and Top Billing to kick off the Saturday night harness racing card at Meadowlands Racetrack
. The series is for three-year-olds that are non-winners of two races or $30,000 lifetime as of March 1.
David Miller and Breakin The Law sat fourth for most of the mile in the first race $59,200 pacing final before picking up cover from the Tim Tetrick-driven One Through Ten near the third-quarter mark and blowing by that rival down the lane to win in 1:50.3 by two and a half lengths. Winter Night, driven by Corey Callahan, closed well from the backfield for third. The winning time equalled the North American season's mark, set by Piston Broke at Woodbine Racetrack in March.
Breakin The Law paid $3.20 to win as part of the favoured Ron Burke entry, which included fourth place finisher Talk It Back Terry and Andy Miller.
The Artiscape gelding, who completed a series sweep and is now eight-for-10 with a pair of runner-up finishes this year, is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stables LLC, and The Panhellenic Stb Corp.
In the $58,650 trotting final, David Miller and Hambletonian eligible Top Billing advanced first over from fourth before the half-mile marker and drew nearly four lengths off from Not Afraid and Ron Pierce to score in 1:55.1, claiming sole ownership of the divisional North American season's mark. Top Billing's entrymate, Trouble, and Andy Miller rounded out the top three finishers.
Top Billing paid $2.40 to win and completed a $4.20 early Miller Daily Double.
The Andover Hall colt, who is undefeated in three career starts, is trained by Julie Miller for New Jersey brothers Jason and Douglas Allen.
David Miller was also victorious in the evening's $25,000 Preferred Pace with Rockincam in 1:50.1 and scored with the night's fastest winner Alexie Mattosie (1:49.3) in an $18,000 conditioned race.
Tim Tetrick also drove four winners on the card.
The Meadowlands is dark next weekend (April 27 and 28) with live harness racing resuming on Friday, May 4.
